Earn Your Screen

Privacy Policy

Effective September 25, 2026. An app by Frankly Built LLC.

Terms of UseApp support

Earn Your Screen is an app by Frankly Built LLC, a Florida company (“we”, “us”). It is a parental control app: a parent uses it on their own phone, and on their kid’s phone or tablet, so the kid can earn screen time by doing real-world missions. This policy explains what the app does with information, in plain English. The short version: no ads, no tracking, no accounts, and we keep only what’s needed to keep your family’s devices in sync, for only as long as you use it.

Two ways the app can run

  • One device only. If you use Earn Your Screen on a single device (for example, a kid’s tablet with approvals by parent PIN, or just trying it out), everything stays on that device.
  • Parent phone plus kid device (paired). To keep the parent phone and the kid’s device in step, the app sends your family’s updates through our sync server. That is the only reason any information leaves your devices. The rest of this policy explains exactly what goes there and when it’s deleted.

What’s stored on your devices

On the parent phone and the kid’s device, inside the app’s private storage:

  • Kids’ first names, ages and whether they use a phone or a tablet, and what your kids call you (for example “Dad”)
  • Missions (name, minutes, schedule, proof type), which ones were done and approved, notes you add when sending one back, bonus minutes, the Time Bank, streaks, savings goals, house rules (earned apps, daily max, bedtime, weekend bonus) and the weekly report
  • Your parent PIN, stored only as a salted, one-way hash (the PIN itself is never stored)
  • A random device id the app creates the first time it opens, and whether Premium is on
  • On the kid’s device: the lock settings (see “The lock on your kid’s device”)

What goes through our sync server (paired devices only)

When a parent phone is paired with a kid device, each device sends its changes to our sync server, which puts them in order and hands them back so every device shows the same thing. The server keeps:

  • The family’s list of changes: the same family information listed above (kids’ first names and ages, missions, approvals and notes, minutes earned and spent in Earn Your Screen, rules, goals, the PIN hash, whether Premium is on), and whether the lock permission is on for each kid device. It is tied to a random family id. There are no names, emails or phone numbers for you as an account holder, because there are no accounts.
  • Device records: each paired device’s random id, a random security token (the server keeps only a one-way hash of it), whether it is the parent phone or a kid device, and its push notification token.
  • Pairing codes: a 6-digit code lasts 10 minutes and works once. To slow down guessing, the server briefly remembers the network (IP) address behind wrong guesses, for about 10 minutes.
  • Proof photos: see below.

Everything between the app and the server travels over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. The server runs on Cloudflare, which hosts it for us. We don’t use the information for anything but syncing your family’s devices: no ads, no profiles, no analytics, no selling.

Proof photos

For missions you set to “photo proof”, your kid takes a photo in the app (or picks one). The app shrinks it and keeps it in its own private folder, never the camera roll.

  • If a parent phone is paired, the photo makes one trip through our sync server to that phone.
  • As soon as the mission is approved or sent back, the photo is deleted from the server, and from the kid’s device. If nobody decides, the server deletes it after 7 days anyway.
  • Photo proof is optional. Missions can use a parent check or a timer instead.

Notifications

With paired devices, the server can send a nudge like “A mission is waiting” or “Minutes just landed in your bank”. To do that it uses the device’s push token and Expo’s push notification service, which passes the message to Apple’s or Google’s notification service. The message text is generic; it doesn’t include your kids’ names. Timer dings, the 5-minute warning and “Time’s up” are made on the device itself.

The lock on your kid’s device

  • iPhone and iPad: the lock uses Apple’s Screen Time tools. You pick the apps to lock with Apple’s own picker. Apple doesn’t tell the app which apps you picked, only how many, and that stays on the device.
  • Android: the lock uses Usage Access to see which app is on screen right now, and reads the list of apps on the device so you can pick which ones to lock. Both are used on the kid’s device only. They are never sent to us, to the parent phone or to anyone else, and never used for ads. Before asking for this, the app shows a screen that explains it and asks a grown-up to agree.
  • The parent phone sees missions done, minutes spent in Earn Your Screen, and whether the lock is turned on. It does not see which other apps your kid uses or what they do in them.

Purchases

Premium is a subscription sold through Apple’s App Store or Google Play. Apple or Google handles the payment and your payment details; we never see your name, email or card. To know whether Premium is active, the app asks the App Store or Google Play from your phone. Premium’s on/off state is shared with your paired kid devices through the family sync so they unlock the Premium features. Apple’s and Google’s own privacy policies cover what they do with purchase information.

What we don’t do

  • No analytics, crash reporting or usage tracking tools
  • No advertising and no advertising identifiers
  • No tracking across other apps or websites
  • No selling or renting of personal information, and no sharing of it with anyone except the service providers that run the sync server and deliver notifications for us
  • No accounts, emails or phone numbers
  • No access to location, contacts, microphone or browsing history

How long we keep things, and deleting it

  • Proof photos: deleted from the server when the mission is decided, and after 7 days at the latest.
  • Pairing codes: 10 minutes, or as soon as they are used.
  • Your family’s sync data: kept while your family uses the app. Settings > Start over on the parent phone erases your family from that phone and from the sync server right away, and unpairs the kid devices. A kid device’s Start over erases the family from that device. If no device in a family syncs for 13 months, the server erases the family automatically.
  • On your devices: Start over, or deleting the app, removes everything from that device.
  • You can also email apps@franklybuilt.co and ask us to delete your family’s data. Because there are no accounts, we may ask you to send it from the parent phone’s app or give details that let us find the right family.

Children’s privacy

Earn Your Screen is made for parents. A parent (or another adult in charge of the child) installs it, sets it up on their own phone and on their child’s device, enters their kids’ first names and ages, picks the apps to lock, and decides which missions use photo proof. Children use the kid screen on their own device to see their minutes, mark missions done and, if their parent chose photo proof for a mission, take a photo of it.

We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children for any purpose other than running this family’s own chore and screen time setup for the parent. We don’t show ads to anyone, don’t build profiles, and don’t let children contact anyone outside their own family’s paired devices. Proof photos are deleted after the parent decides. A parent can review what’s in the app at any time, and can delete it all with Start over on the parent phone or by emailing us. If you believe a child’s information was sent to us without a parent’s involvement, email apps@franklybuilt.co and we’ll delete it.

Backups

If you have turned on your phone’s own backups (for example iCloud Backup or Google backup), your phone may include the app’s data in that backup. The backup lives in your account with Apple or Google, under their terms. We can’t see it.

Security

The app talks to the server only over HTTPS. Each device proves who it is with a random token, and the server stores only a one-way hash of it. The parent PIN is stored only as a salted hash. No system is perfect, but we keep what we hold to the minimum.

Where data is processed

The sync server runs on Cloudflare’s network, which may process data in the United States and other countries where Cloudflare operates.

Changes to this policy

If the app changes how it handles information, we’ll update this policy and the effective date above before the change ships, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
